Start with one purpose and a specific audience
Write one sentence explaining what the photographs or video should do. You might want to introduce your restaurant to new visitors, show job applicants the working environment or explain a product to customers. ‘More visibility’ is a starting point, but it is not yet a shoot plan.
Then describe who will see the content and what they already know. An existing customer needs different context from someone discovering your business for the first time. Decide which message must come across even if the viewer only pays attention briefly.
List the applications before filming
List where the content will appear: a website, presentation, newsletter or social channel. Add the required aspect ratios, any space for text and the video versions you need. Discuss captions and language versions if you serve several audiences.
This prevents a practical mismatch: a strong horizontal wide shot cannot always be cropped vertically without losing something important. Different applications can be planned within one production, but some require additional filming or editing.
Identify the essential images
Divide your list into people, actions, locations and details. Mark what is essential and what would be useful if time allows. For a restaurant, that might include the space, preparation, a dish and the welcome. The Sultan Lounge video can be a portfolio reference for discussing venue presentation, rather than a fixed shot list for every business.
Include who will be available, which spaces can be accessed and whether normal work will continue during the shoot. Name one contact person who can answer practical questions on the day.
Be specific about finishing and feedback
Agree which selection or edit will be delivered, how many versions are needed and when. Discuss usage rights, music, captions and retouching where relevant. If you are unsure, ask which elements are included in the quote and which would extend the scope.
Decide who will collect feedback. A consolidated response is easier to work with than separate comments from different people at different times. Allow time for internal review before your intended publication date.
What should you send with an enquiry?
A useful first brief includes the purpose, audience, applications, essential images, location, preferred date and contact person. Add a few visual references and explain what you like about them. A budget indication helps define an appropriate scope, but you do not need a fully developed creative concept.
Studio Akbudak works from Rotterdam for businesses across the Netherlands. Explore photography, video production or social content and share your brief. The right production approach can then be discussed around your actual needs.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to write a complete script?
No. A clear purpose, an audience description and the intended applications provide a useful starting point. Concept development and a script can be agreed as part of the production.
What if the publication date is not confirmed?
Share your provisional schedule and any dependencies. Explain what is already fixed so that filming and feedback can be planned around those requirements.
